We place a label on anything a person with dementiaDementia is not a specific disease. It's an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. More does. If they don’t want to sit, we call them a wanderer. If they want to walk, we say they are eloping. If they get frustrated, they are aggressive. We have a poor mindset about the word behavior, we only think of the negative. How about we say actions and reactionsWe have started to not use the word behavior because it only has a bad connotation. We never speak of all the good "behaviors" a person with dementia has. Loving, kind, silly, artistic, fun, willing to try, funny... We only talk about what we perceive as bad, inappropriate or need to be managed behaviors. A lot of a persons "behaviors"... More? A lot of persons living with dementiaDementia is not a specific disease. It's an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person's ability to perform everyday activities. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. More are reacting to our actions.
